Steven Spielberg, for the first time in his more than 50-year directing career, shot a music video using only a smartphone – for Marcus Mumford’s debut solo track Cannibal.
A photo attached to the singer’s Instagram post shows Kate Capshaw, Spielberg’s former actress and wife, pushing the director in an office chair as he picks up his phone to shoot the shot.
Marcus Mumford on Instagram: “On Sunday 3rd July in a high school gym in New York, Steven Spielberg directed his first music video, in one shot, on his phone. Kate Capshaw was the almighty dolly grip. I’ve been overwhelmed by the support of the people around me to bring this music to you, and I cannot hope to express all of my gratitude. When people get it, it blows my mind. Kate and Steven just got it, and I cannot thank them enough. Thank you Kate. Thank you Kristie. Thank you Steven. Another unexpected surprise on the crew is Carey Mulligan, listed as in charge of costumes and sound (she also happens to be Mumford’s wife).
Mumford’s debut solo album titled (SELF-TITLED) will be released on September 16.
